ABOUT THE PRODUCER

Why produce gin, herbal liqueur and vermouth in Piedmont, and what’s more in the hills of the Langhe of Barolo, one of the most celebrated winegrowing areas in the world and a Unesco heritage site?  Quite simply because these products are an old local tradition with roots going as far back as the Middle Ages.  And because distilled spirits, herbal liqueurs and vermouths have been produced by the Penna and Currado Vietti families for generations.

Elena’s family used to make and sell them as part of their long-standing involvement in the hospitality sector.  For her and her family, what has come to be known today as mixology was a tradition and part of their everyday life.  Luca’s father Alfredo Currado, on the other hand, worked in the 1950s as a winemaker with famous local producers of vermouth and amaro before he and his wife Luciana Vietti took over the running of her family’s winery. Elena and Luca’s passion for this world was therefore passed down through their respective families.

Today, following years of research and experimentation they have rediscovered and revived this tradition.  Only native herbs sourced locally in the Langhe and the Piedmontese Alps, and picked by hand.  With the rediscovery of an 18th-century wood-fired still and the help of a vastly-experienced master distiller, new life has been breathed back into long-lost, age-old recipes from both their own families and the cultural heritage of Piedmont.

The ambitious idea is to produce unique, top-end products with no modern concentrates or extracts, artisanally crafted in keeping with the formulas using just natural, organic and eco-sustainable ingredients.

ELENA GIN LONDON DRY - LANGA STYLE

With generations of familial experience making spirits, Elena Penna and Luca Currado Vietti have revived their families' heritage with Elena Penna Spirits.  Elena Gin combines the winemaking and food excellence of the Langhe in Piedmont, the ancestral history and richness of the herbal liquor category, and citrus farming of the Alps.  With a resurrection of an old recipe crafted in a small distillery dating back from the 1800s, Elena Gin is a London Dry gin that utilizes ingredients sourced locally throughout Piedmont and the local Alps.

ELENA VERMOUTH DI TORINO SUPERIORE BIANCO TIM21

The Vermouth di Torino Superiore Bianco TIM21 is a new Vermouth from Elena Spirits.  An elegant white Vermouth made from Timorasso - Derthona wine, the famous white wine from the Colli Tortonesi area in the Piemonte. The Vermouth di Torino Bianco is produced using an old Penna family recipe; the Timorasso is blended with a selection of botanicals and natural herbs from the Langhe, the Alps and Liguria. The ingredients are left to macerate naturally in the alcohol and infused in a one-shot process. The Vermouth di Torino Bianco is best enjoyed as an aperitivo on the rocks, or chilled after a meal.

ELENA VERMOUTH DI TORINO ROSSO

Following a traditional recipe from their families' histories, Elena and Luca crafted the Elena Vermouth di Torino from Nebbiolo and a slow infusion of 30 different herbs and botanicals from the Piedmont region.  Excellent on its own as a vini da meditazione, Elena Vermouth is also a perfect ingredient for a variety of cocktails.

ELENA VERMOUTH DI TORINO SUPERIORE ROSSO LAZ19

Elena Vermouth "LAZ19" is the second "vintage" of Vermouth di Torino Superiore from Elena Spirits. As a Vermouth di Torino Superiore, the appellation regulations stipulate the use of at least 50% Piedmontese wines in the base wine and flavoring with herbs grown or harvested in the region. Given their experience and reputation for production of some of the most renowned wines from the region, it was only natural for Elena and Luca to utilize their skills and resources to continue their production at the highest possible quality.  Following suit after their inaugural release, LAZ19 is made from Barolo from the Lazzarito cru vineyard and Arneis, the sum of the parts ensuring an exceptional whole.

Elena Vermouth di Torino Rosso

The Vermouth di Torino Rosso is gorgeous. Made from a base of Langhe Nebbiolo and aromatic herbs, the Vermouth di Torino Rosso offers up scents of tangerine oil, orange

peel, spice, dried herbs and mint. This refreshing, mid-weight Vermouth can be enjoyed on its own or used in cocktails. I find it absolutely delicious.

Elena Vermouth di Torino Superiore Rosso RAV18 2018

The Vermouth di Torino Rosso Superiore Rav 18 is a very serious wine from Elena Pennamade from a traditional family recipe. The base is a cask of 2018 Barolo Ravera and a

touch of Arneis, which immediately elevates this Vermouth into the realm of somethingtruly compelling. Ginger, spice, dried herbs, chocolate and pine lend striking aromatic

nuance to a Vermouth with real depth and Chinato-like complexity. This first releaseis nothing short of compelling.
