Alois Lageder Creates a New Sustainability Initiative
May 27, 2021
In an effort to increase their overall sustainability and further reduce their carbon footprint, Alois Lageder had designed and created a new lightweight glass bottle for their wines. The bottle, called Summa, weighs 450g and will reduce the winery's glass consumption from 512 tons to 425 tons annually, resulting in 17% less glass per year that needs to be produced, transported and recycled. This change, in addition to eliminating use of screw cap and foil closures on all the wines, results in far fewer CO2 emissions. The Summa bottle, while 200g lighter than the bottles previously used by the winery, is sturdy and ensures the same consistent, high quality for the wines.
