A vibrant white, with pleasing buoyancy to the fine frame of acidity as it boosts flavors of Canary melon, white peach, almond blossoms and grated ginger. Sleek and well-meshed on the lingering, saline-laced finish. Drink now through 2029.

A basket of cherries overflows with both ripe and candied aromas lifting from the glass that meld with the sweet spice of a nearby bakery. Each sip is guided by the wine's effortless balance as crushed wild berry flavors steep with aged tea, wild herbs and rosewood all lifted on the finish by notes of crushed chalk and vibrant acidity. Drink from 2025.

A bright ruby red color, the 2021 Etna Rosso Pianodario is incredible and finessed. This is all about elegance, with refined tannins, refreshing acidity, dusty earth, bright cherries, fresh flowers, fresh herbs, and pure mineral earth. Pure and structured, it checks so many boxes but also has such finesse (as all the wines do in the range). Drink over the coming 20 years. |

DAILY WINE PICK: Polished and exhibiting cherry and strawberry flavors, with a floral hint, this red is elegant and lacy in texture. That said, there’s ample structure, which will allow this to age over the medium term. Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo and Colorino. Best from 2027 through 2040. 10,750 cases made, 2,352 cases imported. —Bruce Sanderson

A very pretty, perfumed, young Etna rosso with plenty of fresh flowers, focus and finesse. Medium-bodied, it has fine tannins and a long, bright finish. Best ever? Drink now or hold.

The 2022 Timorasso Boscogrosso is a new wine from Vietti. It emerges from a single parcel in Monleale. Aromatic and pliant, with terrific textural depth, the 2022 has a lot to offer. A brief period on the skins accents the natural richness of the variety. This is an especially refined Timorasso.

Tenuta Tascante does a great job with its single-contrada wines from Etna and succeeds at presenting the subtle differences in the character of each vineyard site. The 2020 Etna Rosso Contrada Pianodario (from Randazzo) comes from a relatively new parcel that was planted in 2010. The wine opens to a light garnet color and showcases aromas of blue flower, redcurrant and flinty stone or ash. It sees 12 months in Slavonian oak casks, and the luminous transparency of the fruit shines bright in this accessible vintage. Contrada Pianodario does not have the enhanced complexity or depth of Sciaranuova or Rampante, but I prefer this bottle for its elegant freshness and tightness.
