This has aromas of olives, black fruit, cracked pepper and dried herbs. Meaty and savory, with firm, chewy tannins. Compact and medium-to full-bodied, with excellent concentration. Sustainable. Better after 2023.
Heady aromas of pressed chamomile flower, bread crust and white stone fruit waft out of the glass on the classy Ouedis Brut from Enrico Serafino. Elegantly structured, seductively smooth and savory, the palate features ripe yellow apple, pear, citrus and pastry shell alongside vibrant acidity. A persistent, refined perlage provides even more energy and finesse.
Medium intense strawberry pink; aromas of marascino cherry, watermelon and pink roses. Medium full with very good concentration. There is very good complexity, with a finish that displays notes of red cherry and carnation. This would be ideal with a lighter prosciutto, such as Prosciutto di San Daniele. Enjoy over the next 2-4 years.
The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia naturally has a bit more volume and richness than the straight Scarrone, but the two wines are not that different in terms of personality. All the elements are dialed up to eleven. This sumptuous, flashy Barbera from 100+ year-old vines is a winner.
Remarkably pretty, yet dark and intense, the 2018 Amarone della Valpolicella Campo dei Gigli bursts from the glass with dusty notes of dried roses, balsamic spice, tobacco, dark chocolate and dried black cherries. Seamless and elegant in style, this envelops the palate with ripe red and blue fruits, taking on a bitter tinge of mocha and espresso toward the close. It finishes long and staining, with a coating of fine-grained tannins that adds a classically dry impression while minty herbal tones maintain freshness. This transcends the 2018 vintage, yet patience will be required.
The 2021 Pinot Grigio Mongris is stunning, with a whiff of sweet smoke and stone dust that gives way to peach skins and mint. This is round, supple and lively throughout, with ripe orchard fruits complemented by candied lime. It leaves vanilla bean and almond paste nuances while leaving the palate completely refreshed.
