An explosion of flavors on the nose and palate; dark forest fruits, dry hay, strawberries with cream, smoke and spice. Great Complexity and Intensity.
The 2019 Barolo Lazzarito continues a trend seen in recent years in which the focus has been more about finesse than raw power. Intense red fruit, iron, dried herbs, chalk, dried rose petal and white pepper all run through this deep, virile Barolo. The power and intensity of Serralunga really come alive on the heady, explosive finish. Bright saline notes linger on the deep, resonant finish. A Barolo of raw, unbridled power, the Lazzarito demands patience.
Subtle and minerally nose with a some chalky lemons, bitter almonds and green apples. Quite a saline, medium-bodied palate with an austere and bone-dry finish. Drink now.
The 2021 Pinot Grigio Mongris is stunning, with a whiff of sweet smoke and stone dust that gives way to peach skins and mint. This is round, supple and lively throughout, with ripe orchard fruits complemented by candied lime. It leaves vanilla bean and almond paste nuances while leaving the palate completely refreshed.
This elegant red is medium- to full-bodied, with fine, satiny tannins and texture and a subtle overtone of Earl Grey tea. Featuring baked black plum, kirsch, min eral and mocha flavors, this shows good concentration in a harmonious frame, with a lingering, creamy finish. Primi tivo and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2027. 500 cases made, 150 cases imported.
The 2020 Asciutto Rive di Colbertaldo Vigneto Giardino is remarkably airy and fresh yet deep; stone dust gives way to dried flowers, ground ginger and citrus-tinged pear. This is a luxuriously soft and round expression, with silken bubbles and a beautiful balance of saline acidity contrasting its pleasant inner sweetness. Ripe pear mixes with green melon and candied citrus throughout the long and incredibly refreshing finale, as a twang of granny smith lingers. Adami is a master of the Asciutto style, which the winery estimates leaves between 17-32 grams per liter of residual sugar; and yet, you’d be hard-pressed to notice it at all.
Coming from La Morra, a more fruit-forward tone can be found in the licorice spice and depth of the 2019 Barolo Cerequio, which offers slightly darker fruit, ripe berries, and peppercorn. This was the second vintage produced and is more approachable now for the vintage. It is a joyful wine though it still has ripe structure. Drink 2024-2044.
