The 2020 Conero Riserva Agontano is dark and intense. A cascade of violet flowers and lavender gives way to crushed blackberries complicated by hints of cocoa and camphor. It’s soft and enveloping with polished red and black fruits guided by brisk acidity. Fine tannins slowly mount toward the close. The Agontano leaves chalky mineral tones and a bitter espresso tinge to stick around through the long and structured finale. The 2020 is complex and beautifully balanced, yet also painfully young. Patience will be required.
Aromas of spearmint, almond and a hint of fennel. Medium-full with impressive concentration, there is notable persistence, good acidity and excellent varietal character. Quite dry in the finish with green herbal notes. Enjoy over the next 5-7 years.
The stems in Teodoro are very ripe, so the estate uses 60% whole clusters to make their Barolo Riserva and holds it in bottle another five years before release. A saturated red color, the 2016 Barolo Riserva boasts notes of cherry liqueur, licorice, crushed rocks, and black truffle. Medium-bodied, it has more depth and rich concentration on the palate, with ripe tannins and a seamless structure. Balanced and harmonious, it’s really starting to show its character and is going to be a cellar-worthy wine for the next 20 or more years.
The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Camp Gros Martinenga is ripe with a bit darker tone, offering notes of anise, grenadine, and cedar. It is medium-bodied, with a firm core of fruit and earth, as well as freshness and a ripe tannin structure. Its notes pf tea leaves, bergamot, and red cherry are long on the palate. Hold this another year and drink 2024-2040. |
This zippy sparkler opens with aromas of freshly squeezed cherries that envelop the senses as floral and herbal aromas slowly come into frame providing contrast to the bright fruit notes. Plump mixed berries jump on the palate as the creamy texture and soft bubbles transport the palate to the next level.
The 2018 Orleto, 100% Cabernet Franc, is a new wine from Aia Vecchia. Dark, sumptuous and super-expressive, Orleto shows just how well-suited Franc is to the Tuscan coast. Espresso, mocha, leather, tobacco and incense play off a core of dark fruit as this sensual, wonderfully engaging red opens in the glass. Soft, plush contours wrap it all together in style.
