Andrea De Cinque and his son Alessandro founded BAD SPIRITS in their liqueur laboratory in Bologna, Italy, in 2015. Their goal was to create a diverse range of high-quality traditional and original artisan liqueurs, drawing on Andrea’s over thirty years of industry experience and his great-grandfather’s research notes and recipes.
Ferdinando De Cinque, born in 1876 in Casoli (Abruzzo), was a lawyer, literature scholar, botanist, and herbalist who constantly experimented to find the perfect expressions of ingredients for his homemade liqueurs. Today, father and son often find success in experimentation as well, playfully referring to their unexpected results as "mistakes," which sometimes lead to remarkable discoveries of unusual nuances in traditional liqueurs.
Although several of their products have already gained international recognition, BAD SPIRITS remains a young company that continues to develop unique offerings using only triple-distilled grain spirits (wheat and rye) and completely natural, allergen-free ingredients. The two products that will be sold in the US are the1904 Amaro, a silky, vibrant amaro with gentle chamomile notes, and La Sambuca Sbagliata, a modern take on sambuca that is less sweet with a hint of orange, showcasing complex aromas and a delicate, harmonious texture. Both products feature stunning bottles and labels that reflect the quality of the spirits within.
