In 1989 Brian Larky moved back to the U.S. after five years as winemaker at the prestigious Italian estate Ca’ del Bosco. Wanting to bring Italy’s finest wines to American tables at affordable prices, he founded Dalla Terra Winery Direct® in 1990.

Before working in Italy Brian earned a U.C. Davis Fermentation Sciences degree and held production jobs in Napa Valley wineries such as Far Niente and Domaine Chandon.

Brian’s hopeless addiction to adventure travel has taken him down many of North America’s, Europe’s and Asia’s major rivers. Other water trips include a three-month stint as head whitewater guide on the African Rainbow Equatorial Expedition (the first known crossing of equatorial Africa by boat through the waterways between the Indian and Atlantic Oceans;) and many transoceanic voyages and yacht races. He is a private, commercial and instrument rated pilot, a scuba Divemaster, catches (and releases) lots of fish, and skies deep powder from Cortina to Taos to Yellowstone.

The color photographs on this website are Brian’s. Although he subscribes to the saying “No businessman is worth his salt…who does not have his affairs so expertly organized that he cannot drop them at a moment’s notice and leave for parts unknown” (Burton J. Hendrick, The Life of Andrew Carnegie), these days Brian is more likely found educating sales staff on a tour of Dalla Terra’s Italian wineries than rappelling a rock face in Nepal (though he can occasionally still be found on a chairlift, fingers frozen to his BlackBerry). Discovering and sharing great wine values, he says, offers its own kind of adventure travel.
